Lee Draper, PhD, Vice Chair

Dr. Lee Draper holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley.  She has held management positions as a museum director, curator, and educator, and as a member of program leadership at the W.M. Keck Foundation, The Ahmanson Foundation, and California Community Foundation.  She currently heads Draper Consulting Group that since 1990 has served over 250 grantmakers and nonprofit organizations.  The firm’s methodology is rooted in anthropological theory and honors each organization’s unique values, culture, and constituency.

Dr. Draper has led major efforts to shape philanthropy.  She served as one of the lead consultants to Blue Cross of California in creating all aspects of its two new philanthropic entities valued at over $3.2 billion:  The California Endowment and the California HealthCare Foundation.   Her firm has helped in the formation of 10 new foundations and assisted in the expansion, program design, and governance of 30 more.

DCG is a change partner to nonprofit organizations.  It works closely with nonprofit board and staff leadership to envision high impact strategic plans, create multi-year budget projections, and mobilize the resources to reach goals.  DCG has worked with nearly 200 nonprofits to build their strength, sustainability, and community engagement.  Dr. Draper has written extensively on best practices in nonprofit management and organizational development based on DCG’s track record of success, and has been an advisor to numerous management support organizations.
