WEBINAR: Exploring Equity Approaches in the Philanthropic Sector: Two Case Studies

June 28, 2018 — 1:00 PM Eastern

Philanthropy-serving organizations are increasingly playing a role in efforts to advance equity in the philanthropic sector.  In some cases, they are providing technical assistance and consultative services to grantmakers.  In other cases, they are managing collaborations and cross-sector work in partnership with major funders. There are lessons to be learned from their work in this space, especially as they employ equity approaches in distinct ways.

Marcia Coné

Elizabeth Whittaker-Walker

This webinar includes discussions with Marcia Coné, chief strategist with the Women’s Funding Network, and Elizabeth Whittaker-Walker, the director of learning services and public policy at the Council of Michigan Foundations.  Marcia will share insights from the work that the Women’s Funding Network is doing to bring a racial and gender equity lens to its network of women’s foundations.  Elizabeth Whittaker-Walker will share the challenges and opportunities of facilitating a community-driven process that deeply engages a number of partners, including several Council on Michigan Foundations members, at a local level in four Michigan communities.

Our discussion will include a lively Questions and Answers portion with the panel, digging deeper on how philanthropy-serving organizations manage this unique role, when they tap internal expertise, or when they engage consultants to sharpen the design and implementation of their work.
