Please join us for a conversation with Rebecca Epstein (she/her) to hear about key learnings that she and her co-authors shared in the Nonprofit Quarterly’s article “Paving a Better Way: What’s Driving Progressive Organizations Apart and How to Win by Coming Together” (May 2023). Rebecca will help us unpack how these learnings apply to our work as consultants to the philanthropic sector.

The Back Story: 

In2022, a multiracial, multigenerational group of over 25 coaches, consultants, and capacity builders started meeting around a shared sense that internal conflicts at progressive organizations were undermining social justice movements. Several group members were compelled to build on the critical conversation sparked by Maurice Mitchell and his seminal piece. The contributors shared their analysis in an article published in Nonprofit Quarterly in May 2023, entitled “Paving a Better Way: What’s Driving Progressive Organizations Apart and How to Win by Coming Together.” The authors share reflections and insights on how to sharpen our collective skillfulness and accountability to act in alignment with organizational values while achieving impact for progressive movements. It is an invitation to staff and leaders, as well as coaches, consultants, and capacity builders and other stakeholders, to break the cycle of disconnection that too often grinds the work to a halt at the very time when our organizations need to be winning.
