29apr1:00 pm2:00 pmWEBINAR: Strengthening and Unifying Communities Through Effective Grantmaking

Event Details

In this conversation and group discussion, we’ll hear observations about effective grantmaking practice.

Marcus Walton, president of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, a community of funders committed to transforming philanthropic culture and practice in ways that support thriving nonprofits and communities. Through that lens, Marcus will discuss ways to help your foundation clients turn a hunger for more effective philanthropy into clear pathways for achieving it. In this conversation and group discussion, we’ll hear Marcus’s observations about effective grantmaking practice and the critical value of applying a racial equity lens to those practices. He will also outline the ways that GEO’s core principles of building capacity; collaboration; flexible, reliable funding; learning and evaluation; strengthening relationships; and equitable philanthropy combine with access to relationships and resources to serve as pathways toward equity-based and community-informed change. Together, we will:

• Discuss the usefulness and limits of using grantmaking practice alone to advance equity-based and community-informed change

• Understand the transformational ways that a racial equity perspective can be used to consider philanthropy and giving

• Engage in Q&A to consider questions that may be deemed too sensitive or unwelcome in other forums As we all operate amid ongoing calls for racial justice and changes to our old ways of operating, join this conversation to learn how to support clients as they lean into this moment, ensuring that philanthropy serves as a strengthening and unifying presence in our communities.
