WEBINAR: Activating Coalitions and Partnerships to Advance Philanthropic Investments
August 20, 2019 — 1:00 - 2:00 PM Eastern
The problems and issues that foundations and public funders are trying to tackle in communities across the country are complex and require community-owned solutions. Increasingly, funders are looking at how they can catalyze change and yet not be held responsible for 100% of the investment or for solely solving deep-rooted social problems. Systems-building initiatives, coalitions and partnerships are the mechanism for getting there.
Despite the belief that so much more can be accomplished when community organizations work in partnership, partnering is not always easy. The roles of philanthropy can range from investors and conveners, to capacity builders or even partnership administrators. Navigating their own roles and those of their grantees is not always smooth sailing. In some cases, funders may not have the content knowledge, systems experience and/or the bandwidth to launch these complex efforts on their own. Consultants can help support funders in the design and development of systems change partnerships and collaborations, help them navigate the rough spots and help guide them towards the future.
Join Nicole O. Tanner, Ph.D., Managing Partner at VIVA Strategy + Communications and Cindy Faulkner, Assistant Director of First 5 San Bernardino, as they share their insights on how they have worked in partnership and built a successful client-consultant relationship, to launch multiple systems-level initiatives in California for young children and families. Learn how First 5’s investment strategy has evolved over the past 20 years towards systems-building, strategies for optimizing a partnership approach and recommendations for leveraging consultation support.
