It’s remarkable to think that five years have passed since the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped our daily lives and presented us with challenges unlike any we’d faced before. Half a decade later, we’re left to reflect on how much has truly changed — and what remains the same.
One constant certainly remains: the growing demand for the essential services and resources nonprofits provide to help communities thrive. Five years on, the call to support and sustain these organizations is louder than ever.
The Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy’s 11 Trends in Philanthropy for 2025 report explores many of these issues and others — attempting to look beyond the pendulum swing and into a future where innovations in philanthropy and community-building may yet achieve the transformations we all hope to see.
Join the Johnson Center’s Tory Martin and your NNCG peers for a robust conversation on major shifts and forces at work in the field and how current events may impact your work now and in the future.

Increasingly, grantmakers are seeking to engage individuals with lived expertise to inform their strategies, enhance learning, and achieve more equitable results. However, funders may not always know where to begin or how to structure participatory learning processes effectively. This session will highlight strategies and tools consultants can use to guide grantmakers in fostering power sharing and meaningful community engagement. Drawing from a new guide developed by Engage R+D, we’ll explore how consultants can help foundation leaders—including executives, program officers, and evaluation staff—design and implement participatory learning and evaluation practices that advance equity and collaboration in philanthropy.

Since that time, a lot has changed, to put it mildly. The sectors’ needs and concerns continue to evolve with the changing landscape. We know that the field of consultants and advisors is growing and changing to meet the moment – but we wanted to know more!
Last year, the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers (NNCG) and 21/64 collaborated to launch a national study of grantmakers and donors and the consultants and advisors who support them. We heard from a diverse array of 542 philanthropic consultants, advisors, funders, and donors from across the United States – and beyond – with a wide range of perspectives and practices.
Over the course of 2025, we will share what we have learned — and this webinar kicks it off for NNCG and 21/64 members with an overview of key findings and a chance for questions, discussion, and stories from your own experience.

Webinar Description: Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) are the fastest-growing charitable vehicle and one of the most flexible. More than 3,000 nonprofits now offer DAFs. While the nonprofits follow the same regulations, their policies, practices, and value propositions for donors, companies, and foundations vary wildly. The growth and variability have put DAFs on the radar of more advisors, donors, nonprofits, critics, and regulators.
What will be your role in helping clients navigate the DAF landscape? In this webinar, we’ll discuss:
- A brief overview of how DAFs work and how they fit into wealth, tax, and philanthropic planning for clients
- Comparing diverse uses and providers within the evolving landscape of DAF sponsors
- Connecting DAF to other philanthropic vehicles and social impact goals
- Understanding nuances of the big critiques and public policy challenges
- Your questions–ask us anything!
